The Contribution of Postural Adjustments to Body Balance and Motor Performance

The control of balance by the central nervous system is crucial to maintain our posture and perform efficiently our daily motor tasks. This control requires the development of dynamical phenomena sub-served by highly-coordinated patterns of muscle activation/deactivation disseminated throughout the whole-body and called “postural adjustments”. Establishing the interaction between balance control, locomotion and cognition has important clinical implication, especially in term of falls prevention, and will improve our knowledge on the underlying neural correlates. This Research Topic provides an up-to-date picture of the relationship between postural adjustments, body balance and motor per...

Impact of Technology on Human Behaviors in Medical Professions Education

Human behaviors are essential in understanding how individuals engage in medical science academic activities. Healthcare systems across the globe have witnessed a significant shift in recent years by integrating technology in innovating new methods and practices to improve educational practices. Therefore, pedagogical practices in medical sciences are expected to be consistent with the current developments so that medical students are prepared with the necessary skills when entering workplaces. In addition, the excessive use of technology has created severe concerns in the academic community that needs further investigation. Thus, it is crucial to know how teachers and students in medical sc...

New advances in Rehabilitation of Stroke

New advances in Rehabilitation of Stroke

Worldwide, stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability, with an estimated prevalence of 2.5%. The prevalence of people living with the effects of stroke has increased because of the growing aging population. As the number of stroke survivors increases, so does the demand for function rehabilitation of stroke. The goal of conventional rehabilitation is to improve residual function and restore independence, but its impact is still limited. Novel therapeutic approaches remain urgent and the potential mechanisms underlying these approaches require further exploration. Therefore, in this Research Topic, our goals include: (1) to explore novel rehabilitation approaches of stroke in both acute and chronic stages; (2) to explore the potential mechanisms underlying novel rehabilitation approaches of stroke; (3) to explore different situations and challenges across different countries regarding rehabilitation of stroke; (4) to identify ways to further improve the quality of rehabilitation for stroke; (5) to identify and remove barriers that limit patients’ access to appropriate rehabilitation services.

Neuroergonomics

Neuroergonomics: The Brain at Work and in Everyday Life details the methodologies that are useful for keeping an ideal human-machine system up-to-date, along with information on how to prevent potential overload and minimize errors. It discusses neural measures and the proper methods and technologies to maximize performance, thus providing a resource for neuroscientists who want to learn more about the technologies and real-time tools that can help them assess cognitive and motivational states of human operators and close the loop for advanced human-machine interaction. With the advent of new and improved tools that allow monitoring of brain activity in the field and better identification of...
